Kandhamal: Boudh police arrested a person on charges of impersonating a police officer in the district.
The accused, identified as Sharat Behera from Nakuanali village, used to extort money from villagers by wearing a fake police uniform.
Police have seized a fake identity card, belt, and mobile phone.
The incident occurred at Chandipur village under Boudh police limits, where a group of youths, including Behera, were extorting money from villagers by posing as police officers. However, the villagers grew suspicious and attempted to apprehend them. While four of the impersonators escaped, Behera was caught red-handed.
Upon being informed, the Boudh police rushed to the scene and took Behera into custody. He was subsequently produced in court.
The police have launched a search operation to apprehend the remaining four impersonators, informed Boudh police station Inspector Ranjit Kumar Muni.
