Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a woman who had sustained severe head injuries after being attacked by chain snatchers on Monday, died on Thursday after battling for life for three days.
The deceased has been identified as U Bishnu Patra.
The incident took place when Bishnu riding pillion on a bike with her husband in Bhubaneswar. They were travelling to Harirajpur’s Somanath Temple from Bhubaneswar when two miscreants on a bike chased them. The attackers attempted to snatch Bishnu’s gold chain but failed due to its thickness. Undeterred, they pursued the couple again, attacking Bishnu in their bid to steal the chain.
Bishnu suffered deep gashes on her head, rendering her critically injured. However, her courageous response startled the attackers, who were forced to retreat after she raised an alarm, chasing them away from the scene.
Bishnu was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she underwent treatment before succumbing to her injuries on Wednesday evening.
