Bhubaneswar: A five-year-old female elephant calf was rescued from an abandoned well at Rajing village under Athamallik forest division in Angul district, on Saturday.
According to reports, the calf had fallen into the well while searching for food and got separated from its herd.
Locals spotted elephant writhing in pain and immediately alerted the forest department.
A team from the forest department quickly arrived at the scene and began the rescue operation.
Using a JCB excavator, they were able to lift the calf out of the well. Once freed, the calf returned to the forest.
