Sambalpur: In yet another incident of man-animal conflict, three elephants, including a calf, were electrocuted in Burmal forest on Sunday night, the Forest department informed.
According to reports, poachers had laid live electric wire meshes to hunt wild boars. Unfortunately, three elephants lost their lives after coming in contact with the live electric wires.
The carcasses of the three elephants were recovered from Naktideul Range in Burmal forest in Sambalpur district on Monday morning.
Local villagers spotted the three carcasses in Burmal forest today morning and informed the Forest department. Soon, Forest department personnel reached the spot and launched an investigation into the matter.
During the few days, a herd of elephants was moving in the Naktideul range. It is reported that the elephants, which were out in search of food, died on Sunday night after falling into the electric meshes laid for hunting wild boars.
Meanwhile, a CCF from the Wildlife headquarters has been given charge of the investigation.
