Balasore: Miscreants stole gold jewellery and cash worth lakh of rupees from three houses in separate incidents in the Treasury Colony area under Soro police limits in Balasore district, on Monday night.
In the first incident, miscreants looted Rs 1,200 in cash and 10 grams of silver coins from the house of Kartik Jena, a resident of Aruha area, who was living in a rented house in the colony.
In the second case, the thieves stole two gold chains, six gold rings, a mangalsutra, a silver bracelet, three silver rings, four toe rings, six silver coins, and Rs 6,000 cash from the house of Saroj Kumar Das at Nizampur under Kamarda police limits.
The third victim, Amarendra Tripathi from Avana village, was also renting a house in the same colony. The thieves took Rs 53,840 in cash and two silver rings from his house, but jewellery worth Rs 7 lakh was left untouched in another wardrobe.
All three victims reported the thefts to the Soro police station and the police have begun an investigation.
The total value of the stolen jewellery is estimated to be more than Rs 3.6 lakh, along with over Rs 60,000 cash.
