Bhubaneswar: In a heart-wrenching incident, a woman was hit by a speeding truck at the Palasuni intersection in Bhubaneswar on Thursday morning while she was trying to cross the busy road. The victim died on the spot.
While the identity of the woman is yet to be ascertained, tension prevailed in the area after the gory mishap. Movement of vehicles was disrupted for about an hour due a traffic jam after the accident. Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on the National Highway due to a road blockade by the agitators.
According to reports, the deceased woman was returning from the local market with provisions and when she was crossing the road she was hit by a speeding truck. As a result, the woman fell on the ground bleeding heavily. Locals and passers-by rushed to help her and called an ambulance. However, the ambulance arrived late and the woman died on the spot.
The deceased’s bag and vegetables, fruits and other items were seen strewn beside the woman’s gory body.
Tension prevailed in the area after the woman’s death. Despite repeated demands of the locals, the authorities are yet to construct a foot overbridge at Palasuni intersection, which has turned into a death trap for people.
Police reached the accident spot and sent the victim’s body for post-mortem. At the time of writing the report, police are busy trying to control the situation.
