Koraput: Police have seized about 8.21 quintals of ganja from a farm house at Munja under B Singpur police limits in Koraput district and arrested six persons in this connection on Friday night.
While principal accused Dipu Behera and his younger brother Kalia Behera have given a slip to the police, their father Ramesh Behera has been arrested.
“Acting on reliable inputs OIC B. Singpur police station and team conducted a raid at a maize farm house of one Dipu Behera and seized 821 kg of ganja. Six persons -five of whom are labourers and Dipu’s father have been arrested,” informed Tapaswini Kanhar, Boriguma SDPO briefing reporters today.
The SDPO however, said that the principal accused Dipu Behera and his brother Kalia have managed to escape during the raid.
Kanhar said that the seized contraband is valued at around Rs 50 lakh in the grey market.
She further explained that ganja was being trafficked to outside states along with maize and added that principal accused Dipu and his brother will be arrested very soon.
The accused persons have been forwarded to court.
