Sambalpur: A newborn boy was allegedly stolen from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, Sambalpur. A couple from Chhattisgarh filed a complaint stating that their newborn baby boy was stolen by an unidentified woman from the hospital.
According to the family, an unknown woman created a cordial relationship with the couple and their family members. The family alleged that she took the newborn when he cried. Following the complaint, the hospital authorities immediately informed the Burla police.
A team led by the IIC reached the hospital and examined the CCTV footage. Geeta Das, wife of Mohan Das of Basan police station area of Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh, was admitted to the Gynecology and Obstetrics Department of VIMSAR on November 24. She gave birth to a baby boy the previous day.
Since her admission, an unknown woman had come and developed a good relationship with the couple, the husband alleged. However, when the couple couldn’t find their baby that afternoon, despite extensive searches, no trace of the unknown woman could be found.
Police officers reached Burla Medical College and started an investigation after a complaint was filed. The CCTV footage shows the woman leaving the hospital with the newborn. The police have launched an investigation to trace the woman.
“Four teams have been formed for the investigation. The teams are examining vehicles at 23 border check posts. The CCTV footage has been sent to the teams. We are also questioning the parents and relatives of the newborn,” said Haresh Chandra Pandey, Additional SP, Sambalpur.
