Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is conducting regular and sudden raids on various business establishments, including business centers, factories, and godowns to check fraudulent measures adopted by traders to cheat people in weights and measures, Minister of Food Supply and Consumer Welfare Krushna Chandra Mahapatra told the Assembly.
In reply to a question raised by Tushar Kanti Behera, the minister said 983 factories were raided between May 2024 and October 2024 and four law suits were filed against default units. A sum of Rs 1,45,000 was collected from the defaulters. Similarly, 358 godowns were raided during this period.
According to Mahapatra, testing of prohibited colours in vegetables and formalin in fish meat are being done at the State Food Testing Institute (SFTI) in Bhubaneswar. However, no adulteration has been observed in any sample in the tests conducted by the laboratory in the last six months.
Similarly, no adulteration has been observed in petrol pumps and cement godowns in Odisha in the last six months.
