Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has ordered the immediate stoppage of construction of the ‘Urban Majestic Apartment’ in Patia, Bhubaneswar.
The civic body had initially granted permission for the building plan on January 2, 2024, for the construction of a multistoried apartment building on plot no. 309/1694, Khata no. 474/5, under mouza Patia, in favor of M/s “Paltronics Allied Industries Pvt. Ltd”.
However, following a letter from the GA & PG Department, Government of Odisha, the Commissioner of BMC ordered the construction to be halted. The GA & PG Department also directed the Tahsildar of Bhubaneswar to correct the Record of Rights (ROR) in Pattadar status by deleting Sthitiban.¹
The land in question was originally leased for industrial purposes, but an illegal conversion of kisam took place. The Commissioner of BMC has taken immediate action, instructing the planning section to cancel the planning approval until further decision by the competent authority.
According to the planning guidelines, “In case of any dispute arising out of land record or in respect of title, interest after the permission is granted, the permission so granted shall be treated as automatically cancelled during the period of dispute,” Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil emphasized that construction on disputed land cannot be allowed once it comes to notice.
The construction, which was taking place on 5 acres of land with six apartment blocks, has been halted following the BMC’s order. The BMC will take strict action if the agency fails to comply with the order, including sealing the venue or deploying enforcement personnel if necessary.
