Bhubaneswar: A 7-year-old female leopard named Rani passed away due to an infection at Sambalpur Zoo on Wednesday.
According to reports, Rani appeared to be in good health throughout the day and interacted well with visitors. However, around 6:00 pm, she began vomiting. The veterinary team quickly started treatment, but shortly afterward, she passed away. Upon examination, it was determined that the cause of death was an infection in her uterus.
DFO Anshu Pragyan Das explained, “Rani was fine earlier in the day, but by 6 pm, she started vomiting. The veterinary team observed some discharge from her internal organs. We administered anti-inflammatory and antibiotic injections, but we suspected it was an infection in her uterus. A post-mortem report will confirm the exact cause.”
Earlier in November, in an effort to increase the leopard population, a male leopard named Raja had mated with Rani at the zoo. Unfortunately, Rani’s life was cut short by the infection.
