Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly witnessed a ruckus today as Congress MLAs protested the rejection of their adjournment motion on the Polavaram project issue. The Speaker had disallowed the motion, leading to a commotion in the House.
As per reports, the Congress MLAs wanted to raise the Polavaram issue in the Assembly, but the Speaker’s rejection of their motion sparked the uproar. Congress MLAs trooped into the well of the House, shouting slogans and protesting the Speaker’s decision.
The situation became so chaotic that the Speaker was forced to adjourn the House till 11:30 am initially. As the situation showed no signs of improvement, the Speaker had to adjourn the House till 4 pm.
It is pertinent to mention that the Polavaram project has been a contentious issue in Odisha, with the opposition parties alleging that the project would harm the state’s interests.
