Balangir: A latest incident of corporal punishment has come to light in Balikhamara village under Muribahal police limits in Balangir district where a teacher allegedly beat a Class IV student with slippers.
The matter came to the fore after the victim’s mother Sanjulata Karmi filed a complaint with Muribahal police in this regard. Sanjulata accused the school teacher Bibekananda Munda of abusing her son Biswajit physically.
Going by Sanjulata’s complaint, Munda beat the student with slippers as the plate in he was eating fell from his hand while having mid-day meal.
On basis of Biswajit’s mother complaint, Muribahal police registered a case in this connection and initiated an investigation into the matter.
Police have, meanwhile, summoned the accused teacher for questioning.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with local residents demanding strict action against the teacher.
Headmaster-In-Charge of the school Debendra Rout said, “I cannot make any comment on the issue because I was absent on that day. The accused teacher can better explain the actual incident.”
Sanjulata said, “The teacher beat my son on December 4 as the mid-day meal plate fell from his hands. We filed a police complaint last night as the accused teacher did not respond to phone calls made by my husband.”
