Bhubaneswar: Jagdish Ratha, former Secretary, Kalapathar PACS Ltd in Ulunda Block of Subarnapur district, was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bolangir, and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 4 years and a fine of Rs.30,000.
Ratha was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and 409 IPC for misappropriation of government money to the tune of Rs 5,28,054 by manipulating official records and showing less closing balance in the Day Book during the year 2014-16.
The convict Ratha was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.
Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the dismissal of Jagdish Ratha from service following his conviction.
Tapaswinee Seth, former Inspector, Vigilance, Sambalpur Division, had investigated the case and Jayakrushna Sahu, Special PP, Vigilance, Bolangir, conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.
