Bhubaneswar: Another accused was arrested on Friday in connection with the alleged prostitution racket involving Bangladeshi girls in Cuttack.
Accused Sunita Dash (44), a resident of Baripada, was apprehended by Madhupatna police from her locality and forwarded to court.
So far, four individuals have been arrested in connection with this case.
“Three accused were arrested earlier. A 44-year-old woman was arrested yesterday from Baripada. We have evidence that she was involved in engaging the victim in prostitution work. She has been forwarded to court,” said Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena.
On November 25, Madhupatna police had arrested a couple linked to the racket.
Meanwhile, the incident came to light on November 9, when Madhupatna police rescued a Bangladeshi girl who was found roaming in Link Road area of Cuttack late at night. The girl was initially handed over to a Child Care organisation, which then informed the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).
Subsequently, the CWC submitted a report to the Cuttack DCP on November 23, stating that the girl had been brought from Bangladesh to India under the false promise of employment. However, she was later forced into prostitution, the report said.
