Bhubaneswar: The Special Vigilance Court in Cuttack has sentenced Swayambhu Prasad Mishra, the former Deputy Commissioner of Excise for Northern Division, Sambalpur, to two years of rigorous imprisonment.
Mishra was convicted for possessing disproportionate assets under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Along with the jail term, the court imposed a fine of ₹1,00,000 on him.
The Odisha Vigilance had filed a charge sheet against Mishra under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Following his conviction, the Vigilance Department plans to approach the competent authority to initiate proceedings to stop Mishra’s pension.
