Bhubaneswar: Two individuals were allegedly punished by a kangaroo court after being accused of stealing eight sacks of paddy in Dimirimunda village under Telkoi police limits in Keonjhar district, on Monday.
The two accused have been identified as Babuli Padhan and Akhi Padhan.
According to the reports, the accused, Babuli and Akhi, allegedly broke into Suresh Padhan’s house last night around 11 pm. While Suresh’s family was sleeping, the two allegedly stole 8 sacks of paddy.
A neighbor, who heard the noise, went to investigate and saw the two suspects. The neighbor raised an alarm and caught both thieves as they were trying to flee from the scene.
On Today, the villagers of Dimirimunda took matters into their own hands and held a trial in a kangaroo court.
In front of the villagers, the accused were reportedly tied with ropes around their necks, had black ink smeared on their faces and were made to wear shoes on their necks. They were then forced to walk in circles around the village.
Upon receiving a tip-off, the Telkoi police arrived at the village and began investigating the matter further.
