Bhubaneswar: The three-year-old tigress ‘Zeenat’, who was brought from Maharashtra, was detected in Chakulia forest of East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand on Monday, as reported by Chakulia Forest Ranger Digvijay Singh.
Speaking to the media, Prakash Chand Gogineni, the field director of Similipal, stated that they are closely monitoring Zeenat’s movements.
“The tigress is currently five kilometers away from the Odisha border. The Jharkhand forest is contiguous with Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, with the Similipal biosphere acting as a natural corridor. In the past, there have been instances of tigers straying into Jharkhand before returning to Odisha. Our team is actively tracking her using signals from her radio collar to monitor her location,” said Gogineni.
Earlier, Zeenat, who was translocated from the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra to the Similipal Tiger Reserve in Odisha as part of a project to improve the gene pool of big cats in the region, was released into the core forest area of Similipal Tiger Reserve on November 25 after being kept in a soft enclosure.
