Bhubaneswar: In a significant step to enhance the operational efficiency of Indian Railways, the Ministry of Railways has approved ₹509 crore for the construction of two major rail flyovers in Odisha’s Cuttack and Rayagada districts. These projects are part of the Energy, Mineral & Cement Corridor Scheme of Indian Railways, aimed at improving train movements and reducing congestion along key railway routes.

During a recent visit to Odisha, the Minister of Railways, I&B, and Electronics & IT confirmed the approval of these critical rail infrastructure projects.

One of the projects involves the construction of a 10.89 km rail flyover connecting Rajathgarh, Radhakishorepur, and Machhapur railway stations in Cuttack district. This flyover, costing ₹268.92 crore, will allow for simultaneous train movements by eliminating delays caused by cross-traffic.

In Rayagada district, a 5.50 km rail flyover will be constructed at Singapur Road Station on the Raipur-Vizianagaram rail line at an estimated cost of ₹239.83 crore. This infrastructure will address significant traffic bottlenecks, ensuring uninterrupted train movements at the station.

Both projects will streamline operations by eliminating cross-traffic delays at key junctions like Singapur Road Station, Rajathgarh, Radhakishorepur, and Machhapur. These enhancements will improve train mobility, reduce congestion, and provide faster travel times for passengers.

Currently, major junctions in the Khurda Road and Waltair divisions face operational challenges due to traffic bottlenecks caused by cross-movements at these stations. The new flyovers will resolve these issues by creating dedicated paths for trains moving in various directions, ensuring uninterrupted operations.

The combined cost of these projects, ₹508.75 crore, underscores Indian Railways’ focus on infrastructure improvements to meet the rising demand for rail transportation. By easing congestion in the Nergundi-Cuttack-Barang-Rajathgarh and Rayagada-Singapur Road corridors, these flyovers will enhance the overall travel experience and operational efficiency in the region.

These projects reflect the Ministry of Railways’ commitment to modernizing the railway network and addressing growing transportation needs, contributing to a smoother and more efficient rail system across the country.
