Though winter started in late November, cloudy skies and light rains in early December had resulted in a sudden rise in temperature.
The night temperature dropped by 5°C in Keonjhar and Angul, while Jharsuguda was the coldest district in Odisha recording a minimum temperature of 10.8°C. The minimum temperature in Bhubaneswar was 18.2°C, 3°C lower than that on Tuesday.

The weather office said there is unlikely to be any major change in the night temperature during the next four to five days. The mercury is likely to dip further in the coming days intensifying the chill. The drop in night temperatures in Odisha has led to occurrence of increase in fog across the state.
