Bhubaneswar: A seven-month pregnant woman’s murder in Sundargarh district has taken a shocking turn, with police uncovering that her husband orchestrated the crime due to his extramarital affair.
The victim, 31-year-old Samyamayee Behera, was initially reported to have been shot dead by unidentified assailants during a botched robbery attempt at her residence in Jhirdapali under the Tikayatpali police limits on Wednesday night.
However, police investigations have uncovered a sinister plot orchestrated by her husband, Deben Behera, and his brother-in-law, Satya Narayan Behera.
Deben, who works as a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) in Gurundia, had been involved in an affair with a woman from his locality. To eliminate his wife, Samyamayee, Deben conspired with Satya Narayan, a police ASI in Rourkela.
Police have arrested both Deben and Satya Narayan and recovered a gun and three live bullets connected to the crime.
Earlier reports suggested that two armed men had arrived at Samyamayee’s house on Wednesday night, attempting to snatch her gold chain when she answered the door. Upon her resistance, the men allegedly shot her in the chest and fled with the chain.
However, the investigation has debunked this initial narrative, revealing that the murder was a premeditated act. Samyamayee was rushed to Bonai Sub-Divisional Hospital after the incident but was declared dead on arrival.
The arrests followed extensive questioning of Deben, Satya Narayan, and several others. Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
