Jeypore: In a major crackdown, Jeypore Sadar police seized 510 kg of ganja from a car during a routine vehicle check near Patraput on Saturday and arrested one person in connection with the incident.
The accused has been identified as K Raju (24), a native of Andhra Pradesh.
According to Jeypore Sadar police station IIC, Iswar Tandi, the police were conducting patrolling when they intercepted a suspicious car bearing an Andhra Pradesh registration number near Patraput. Upon inspection, they discovered 510 kg of ganja packed in 21 poly bags hidden inside the vehicle.
While the car’s driver managed to flee the scene, one person was apprehended and has been forwarded to court, Tandi confirmed.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the contraband was being smuggled from Andhra Pradesh to Borigumma.
Further investigations are underway to trace the driver and identify other individuals involved in the smuggling operation.
