Bhubaneswar: Two women died after being run over by a train at Surla Road railway station in Ganjam district on Sunday morning.

The victims, Parvati Gowda and Jhunu Gowda, were members of the Pachika Sahayika Mahasangha. They were on their way to attend an association rally in Bhubaneswar.

Parvati and Jhunu, both residents of Jagannathpur village, worked as cooks’ assistants at a local school. They boarded the Palasa-Cuttack DMU train on Sunday morning but tragically fell while rushing to board. One woman fell while boarding, and the other fell while trying to save her. Unfortunately, they were crushed by the train and died on the spot.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has seized the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
