Baripada: Udala Police arrested three individuals for smuggling liquor in a passenger bus on Monday late night.

The accused, identified as Sanyasi Bisoi and Muna Das from Bhubaneswar’s Hi-Tech area, and Ram Singh from Udala’s Ambikadeipur area, were caught with 75 bottles of liquor weighing 180 litres, said sources.

Police on a tip-off intercepted the bus en route to Bhubaneswar from Khunta and arrested the smugglers with liquor.

According to police, the accused had been transporting the liquor from Khunta to Bhubaneswar in a passenger bus. They would receive ₹500 for each bag delivered. Police have seized the liquor and are investigating further.

Besides, police revealed the accused had adopted a new tactic to smuggle liquor. They would deceive passengers by carrying liquor in cold drink bottles. The mastermind behind the operation is still at large, and the concerned officials are working to nab the kingpin.
