Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo chaired a review meeting on Wednesday to address the recovery of pending electricity duties from industrial units across the state.
According to an official press release, the meeting focused on the arrears related to electricity duties, particularly those arising from the self-generation and consumption of electricity by industrial units. Officials provided a detailed analysis of the factors contributing to these outstanding dues.
The discussions revealed that the collection process has been significantly delayed due to ongoing legal disputes, including cases pending in the High Court of Orissa and other judicial forums, regarding exemptions from electricity duty.
Deputy CM Singh Deo stressed the importance of expediting the recovery of these dues and directed the Energy Department to take proactive measures. He instructed officials to work in consultation with the Advocate General Odisha and the Energy Department Advisor to resolve pending cases swiftly.
The meeting was attended by Vishal Dev, Principal Secretary of the Energy Department, Sanjay Sen, Advisor to the Energy Department, Pyari Mohan Mishra, EIC (Elect)-cum-PCEI, and other senior officials.
