Fire breaks out

Bhubaneswar: A 28-year-old youth allegedly set his girlfriend’s house on fire after she rejected his marriage proposal at Anandpur village in Bhadrak district on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Jyoti Ranjan Das, has been on the run since the incident.

As per allegations, Jyoti was in a relationship with a girl from Gopal Sahi under Anandpur Panchayat. However, he allegedly turned coercive, repeatedly pressuring her to marry him and even threatening to leak intimate photos if she refused to marry him.

He felt so insecure that he allegedly set her house on fire, destroying valuables worth Rs 15 lakh, including gold jewellery.

Meanwhile, the victim filed a complaint with Dhamnagar police. Based on the complaint, police registered a case in this connection and began an investigation.
