Odisha Govt Dissolves Governing Bodies Of Aided Degree Colleges

Bhubaneswar: In a significant administrative move, the Odisha Government has dissolved the Governing Bodies and Managing Committees of all non-Government Aided Degree Colleges under the purview of the Higher Education Department. The decision, effective immediately, was announced through a notification issued by the department on Monday.

However, the directive does not apply to Autonomous Colleges, institutions established by Minority Communities, or colleges involved in sub-judice matters relating to their Governing Bodies, the notification clarified.

To ensure the smooth functioning of these institutions during the interim period, the government has designated temporary leadership roles based on the college’s location. For colleges located in district headquarters, the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of the respective district will act as the temporary President of the Governing Body or Managing Committee.

If a district has more than one ADM, the District Magistrate and Collector will nominate one ADM to assume this responsibility. This nomination must be reported to the Director of Higher Education for record-keeping. For colleges situated outside district headquarters, the Sub-Collector of the relevant sub-division will take over as the temporary President until further orders.

The notification also directed the temporary Presidents to submit proposals for forming new Governing Bodies or Managing Committees within three months from the date of the notification.

This decision aims to bring about administrative uniformity and enhance governance in aided degree colleges across the state.
