Bhubaneswar: A top Maoist leader Prabhakar Rao alias Balmuri Narayan Rao was arrested in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district. Rao, 57, had been involved with the Naxal organisation for 40 years and carried a bounty of Rs 25 lakh.
Prabhakar Rao, alias Balmuri Narayan Rao, was a key figure in providing logistical support to the Maoists and had connections with top leaders across various states. Rao carried a hefty reward of Rs 25 lakh on his head. He held a significant position as a member of a state-level committee, ranking second in decision-making power within the Maoist hierarchy, right after the Central Committee. His wife, Raje Kange, is also an active Naxal member, said sources.
As per reports, police had been tracking Prabhakar’s activities for several days before his arrest on December 22. A blockade operation was conducted under the Antagarh police station area, leading to Rao’s arrest.
