Balangir: Two bike-borne miscreants attempted to gouge out the eyes of a 70-year-old man after intoxicating him near the Loisingha petrol pump on National Highway 26 in Balangir district. Past rivalry is said to be the reason behind the gruesome attack.
As per reports, the incident occurred on December 22 night when the elderly person was returning home from a relative’s house at Biruda.
The victim, identified as Insan Jhankar, was allegedly offered a lift by the miscreants. The elderly man refused their offer, citing that his home was nearby. The miscreants, however, attacked him from behind, injecting him with a sedative. After he became unconscious, they attempted to gouge out his eyes. Fortunately, the elderly man regained consciousness when one of his eyes was partially removed. The miscreants fled the scene due to the commotion.
The elderly man was rescued and admitted to the Bhimabhoi Medical College and Hospital in Hospital.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, but the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
