Bhubaneswar: A two-year-old girl was crushed to death by a speeding truck after she fell from the bike she was travelling in with her parents on NH-143 near Lalajiram Petrol Pump under Biramitrapur police station in Sundargarh district, on Tuesday.
According to sources, the girl’s parents Abhishek Majhi and his wife Manisha were returning to their hometown Keria in Jharkhand from Vedavyasa when the toddler accidentally fell off her mother’s lap onto the road. In a split second, a truck coming from the opposite direction ran over the child, killing her instantly.
The incident sparked widespread outrage among locals, who blocked the highway, protesting against the reckless driving and demanding justice for the family. The police rushed to the spot to pacify the protesters and restore traffic movement.
The grieving mother was seen wailing near her child’s lifeless body, while the father was consoling her. Police investigation is underway to identify the truck driver and arrest him.
