Dhenkanal: Preetismita Bhoi, who was conferred with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar by the President Droupadi Murmu, has been felicitated by the Dhenkanal district administration on Monday.
As per reports, Dhenkanal Collector Somesh Kumar Upadhyay also felicitated two other students from Dhenkanal identified as Indrajit Sahu and Shubhranshu Sekhar Sahu who were awarded at the State Level Pencak Silat Martial Art in Chandrabhaga recently.
Notably, President Murmu conferred the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar on 17 exceptional children including one from Dhenkanal across seven categories. These young achievers were recognized for their outstanding contributions in various fields, including innovation, sports, arts, and more.
Altogether seven boys and 10 girls selected from 14 states and Union territories were presented with a medal, certificate and a citation booklet as part of their recognition.
Notably, Preetismita, a 15-year-old Class X student from Kendriya Vidyalaya, has made a remarkable mark in the world of weightlifting. Her impressive achievements include setting a world record at the IWF World Youth Weightlifting Championships 2024 in Lima, Peru, where she lifted a total weight of 133 kg (57 kg in snatch and 76 kg in clean & jerk) in the 40kg weight class, securing a gold medal. She also won a silver medal in the clean & jerk event at the Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship in Doha, Qatar.
Apart from the Collector, district sports officer Sudipta Sahu was also present on this occasion.
