Bhubaneswar: At least 8 places in Odisha recorded night/minimum temperatures of below 10°C on Thursday and G Udayagiri was the coldest place in the state at 5.2°C followed by Rourkela (6.4°C), Phulbani (6.8°C), Semiliguda in Koraput (7.1°C) Daringbadi (8°C), Sundargarh (8.2°C), Keonjhar (8.8°C), Bhawanipatna (9.1°C) and Sonepur (9.8°C).
The state capital of Bhubaneswar recorded 15.1°C while Cuttack saw the mercury drop to 13.5°C.
However, the regional office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has forecast that the chilly weather conditions are likely continue in Odisha for another two days, following which the night temperature will rise by 2°C -3°C.
The chill will continue till Saturday and from Sunday the night temperature will increase gradually. The weather office has predicted another cold spell from January 16 and it will continue till the second week of February.
The weather agency has further warned of dense fog at one or two places in Sundargarh, Kandhamal and Koraput districts till Saturday morning. Shallow to moderate fog may also occur at one or two places in Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Angul and Dhenkanal during this period.
Very dense fog had engulfed Koraput in the last 24 hours, reducing visibility below 50 metres, while moderate fog occurred in Phulbani.
