Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh and a job to the wife of the secretary of the Safai Karmachari Sangh Sahadev Nayak, who was hacked to death in broad daylight amid full public view on Rasulgarh over-bridge on Wednesday.
As per reports, the decision was taken at a meeting chaired by BMC Mayor Sulochana Das and attended by Standing Committee Chairman Biranchi Narayan Mahasupakar.
The meeting was held to discuss the demands of the municipal employees who have been protesting since Wednesday, demanding justice for Nayak’s family and compensation. The BMC’s decision has brought an end to the two-day-long protest.
As per the decision, the deceased’s wife will be given a job as a supervisor, and the family will receive a compensation of Rs 5 lakh. The BMC has also decided to employ Nayak’s wife in the same agency where he was working.
The BMC sanitary workers had been demanding Rs 30 lakh compensation, a job for Nayak’s wife, and stern action against those involved in the murder.
