Bhubaneswar: Baidyanathpur police on Saturday recovered seven live bombs from an under-construction house in the Khajuria area of Berhampur in Ganjam district.
According to police sources, several youths abandoned the bag and fled upon seeing the police personnel during police patrols. The police found bombs in a kit bag on the upper floor of the house during a search operation.
Upon finding the bombs, the police immediately cordoned off the area and called in a bomb disposal team. The team successfully defused the bombs, which were later destroyed by a battery-powered device.
The explosion was so powerful that it shattered the windows and doors of nearby houses. The police are currently investigating the matter and trying to identify the miscreants involved.
In a separate case, unidentified assailants reportedly hurled bombs at the residence of a bamboo trader at Subhadrapur under the jurisdiction of the Cuttack Sadar police station, late Friday night. However, no casualties or significant damage have been reported.
