Bhubaneswar: A youth sustained injuries after being caught in the banned Chinese ‘manja’—a kite flying string coated with powdered glass—on Monday near Trisulia in Cuttack district.
The injured individual has been identified as Aniket Das. The kite string got entangled around his neck and finger, causing the injury.
According to reports, during Makar Sankranti, many kite enthusiasts are using the Chinese ‘manja’, despite it being prohibited.
The Orissa High Court has previously issued directives to restrict the sale and use of this hazardous material, but its usage continues to result in injuries.
In related incidents, on January 9, a person was injured by Chinese ‘manja’ in the 42 Mouza area of Cuttack.
On January 10, a bike rider was also hurt with the same dangerous string near Pala Mandap.
Similar injuries were reported last year during Makar Sankranti, with two bikers hurt in Cuttack.
Authorities continue to warn the public about the dangers of using Chinese ‘manja’, urging greater awareness and enforcement of the ban.
