Jajpur: Over 1,500 Buddhist monks and followers from 17 countries have gathered at Uadaygiri and Ratnagiri in Odisha’s Jajpur district to pay for world peace.
Organised jointly by the International Buddhist Foundation and Udaygiri Buddha Mahotsav Committee, the event is held in memory of the first Guru Padmasambhava or Guru Rinpoche. The meet began on January 12 and will continue till January 16. Since a long time Buddhists were keen to organize such a gathering in memory and gratitude of Guru Padmasambhava, especially here in this holy place
Guru Rinpoche had passed away in Udaygiri and many historians now believe that he was born in Odisha and later went to Tibet to preach Buddhism.
It is worth mentioning here that Lord Buddha also spent some time in the place. Udaygiri, Lalitgiri along with Ratnagiri are known as Buddhist golden triangle. Buddhists have demanded a world heritage status for three places.
