Phulbani: Police arrested a youth for duping job aspirants of thousands of rupees by posting fake employment opportunities at a newly-constructed Government Medical College at Tilakpada in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
The arrested accused has been identified as Laxmikant Meher (37), a resident of Junagarh in Kandhamal district.
According to reports, Laxmikant has been publishing advertisements in local dailies regarding fake employment opportunities at the medical college. The innocent and simple tribal youth of Kandhamal district flocked to his residence daily and paid him lumpsum amounts believing that after Laxmikant assured them of government jobs at the medical college. This way, the fraudster robbed several youths of lakhs of rupees during the past few months.
As the news spread, Dr Akshay Kumar Sahu, Medical Superintendent in-charge at the Phulbani District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), filed a complaint at Phulbani Town police station against Laxmikant and the false job advertisements published by him on Wednesday. Acting on the complaint, police arrested the fraudster and seized some fake government job advertisement papers, a mobile phone, mobile phone SIM cards from his possession.
While Laxmikant has been sent to judicial custody, police have launched an investigation into the matter.
