Bhubaneswar: A day after BJD leader Dipali Das had urged the Mohan Majhi government to consider a CBI inquiry into her father’s murder, Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Thursday responded to Dipali’s demand for a CBI probe into her father’s murder, stating that a formal written complaint is necessary to initiate a proper investigation.
Minister Harichandan emphasized that merely expressing concerns to the media is insufficient and that a formal written submission is required to ensure a thorough investigation. He also noted that if Dipali has grievances with the investigation conducted by the previous Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government, she should submit her concerns in writing to enable the current government to take appropriate action.
Law Minister Harichandan also emphasized that the decision to initiate a CBI inquiry rests solely with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
He expressed concerns over the Crime Branch’s handling of the case, particularly their failure to determine the motives behind the incident despite apprehending the assailant.
Besides, Harichandan noted that Dipali, although late to realize, acknowledged the misleading nature of the Crime Branch’s findings. This highlights the need for a thorough investigation, which the CBI is equipped to handle, given its expertise in investigating special crimes.
