Koraput: A couple died after coming in contact with live wires laid by poachers to catch wild animals at Geruput village under Nandapur block in Koraput district on Monday.
The deceased have been identified as Balaram Galel and his wife Bala Galel.
As per reports, Balaram and his wife Bala Galesel, owners of a tea stall near Nandapur Hata, had gone to the nearby forest to collect firewood for making tea yesterday evening. However, when they didn’t return after a long time, their family and villagers launched a search operation.
Finally, their bodies were found in the forest, entangled with an electric wire laid by poachers to trap animals. The incident has sparked outrage in the area, with villagers demanding strong action against the poachers.
On a tip-off, Nandapur police have reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident.
The bodies of the couple were recovered by the police and sent for post-mortem. The police have launched an investigation into the incident and are searching for the poachers.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased has urged the district administration to provide them with compensation.
