Bargarh: Police today arrested the prime accused, Ashok Mahananda, in connection with the murder of Biswanath Mirdha of Sarsara village in Bargarh district.
Bargarh SP Prahalad Sahai Meena stated that the accused had been in hiding since the incident occurred. He had taken on various jobs, including working as a helper, vehicle driver, and labourer, to evade detection.
The police had been constantly tracking him, and a tip-off from reliable sources led to a raid on a factory in Raipur, resulting in his arrest.
The murder took place on May 20, 2024, after a sudden provocation, while Mirdha was driving an autorickshaw carrying voters to a polling booth.
Although locals initially suspected a political party’s involvement, SP Meena refuted the allegation, citing sudden provocation as the motive instead.
