Rayagada: In a tragic incident, a 55-year-old man was electrocuted after touching a live wire at Platform No. 5 of Rayagada Railway Station on Tuesday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Narasingha Kanda, a resident of Badnala village under Khariar Police Station in Nuapada district.
According to reports, Narasingha was returning home from Sikandarpur, where he had been working as a migrant laborer along with his wife and son. Due to his deteriorating health, he had decided to return to his hometown.
Around 10:00 am, Narasingha climbed atop a tanker on Platform No. 5 of a goods train. At this time, some people at the station shouted warnings as Narasingha reportedly attempted to climb the tanker.
Unfortunately, during this attempt, he raised his arm and touched an 11KV live wire, resulting in a severe electric shock. Narasingha suffered major burns and injuries before falling to the ground beneath the tanker.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) quickly responded to the situation and rushed him to the Rayagada District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) for medical treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The GRP seized his mobile phone and contacted his family. His wife and son, who were also returning from Sikandarpur, were informed of the unfortunate incident.
