Baripada: In a tragic incident, a youth went missing while bathing in the Baitarani River Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Sunday.
The victim has been identified as Biswajit Das, a 19-year-old resident of Balikuda in Jagatsinghpur district. A diploma holder, Biswajit was employed in a vehicle showroom in Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, Biswajit had gone to Bimkhund along with five other youths to enjoy a picnic on Sunday morning. Around noon, the youths went for a bath in the river and his feet slipped while bathing. He was immediately pulled into deep water by a strong current. When Biswajit did not come out of the river after a long time, his friends informed the locals.
On being informed, a team from Thakurmunda police station and Fire Services personnel visited the spot and launched a search operation but they failed to trace him.
The IIC of the police station, Sabitri Dalei said if they failed to find the missing youth, they would seek the help of ODRAF on Monday morning.
