Bhubaneswar: The headmistress of Poparanga Primary School at Pipili in Puri district has been suspended after a Class IV student was bitten by a snake on the school premises on Tuesday.
The Pipili Block Education Officer (BEO) suspended the headmistress, Jayashree Sahoo, on charges of negligence in duty and deviation of government rule under the OCS (CCA) Rule. The class teacher, Gitanjali Raut, was also transferred to another school.
As per reports, the teacher had allegedly punished the student Sai Krishna Pradhan for not being able to answer questions. The student was asked to clean the school’s store room, where a cobra bit him, according to Sai Krishna’s family.
The student was immediately rushed to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is stable, said sources.
After the incident came to light, the District Education Officer took action against the school headmistress. The class teacher who had punished the student has been transferred.
