Nabarangpur: Displaying an exemplary act of humanity, Nabarangpur Superintendent of Police Mihir Kumar Panda personally rescued and transported injured victims of a tragic road accident to the hospital on Friday, ensuring they received urgent medical care.
The accident occurred around noon near Bhatigaon Chowk, where two motorcycles collided head-on.
Dhania Majhi (50) and Raghu Bairagi (40) of Podalguda village were traveling to Kusumpalli village in Kosagumuda block for an engagement ceremony when their bike collided with another coming from the opposite direction, carrying Ambed Kumar Tara (18) and Jagat Raj Khura (26) from Chirma village.
The impact was fatal for Majhi and Bairagi, who died on the spot, while three others sustained severe injuries.
As the injured lay writhing in pain, SP Mihir Kumar Panda, who was passing by on his way to Kosagumuda, noticed the accident and immediately intervened.
He rescued the critically injured Ambed Kumar Tara and Sada Bhatra and transported them in his vehicle to Nabarangpur District Headquarters Hospital, personally urging the medical team to provide them with the best possible treatment.
Meanwhile, Kodigaon Police Station IIC Jugal Sabar arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies, and sent them for post-mortem.
A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
