Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance officials on Saturday arrested Abhay Kumar Nayak, a Sub-Inspector (SI) of police at Sukinda police station in Jajpur district, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 5,000.
According to an official press release, Nayak had previously accepted Rs. 1,000 from the complainant and requested an additional Rs. 4,000 to assist in a family dispute matter. Left with no other option, the complainant reported the incident to the Vigilance Authority.
In response, Vigilance officials devised a plan and successfully apprehended SI Nayak while he was receiving the bribe money. The full amount of the bribe was recovered from his possession and seized as evidence.
A case has been registered at Cuttack Vigilance Police Station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is ongoing and further action is being taken against the accused Abhay Kumar Nayak.
