Puri: The ‘Ratha Katha Anukula’ ritual was performed at the Puri Jagannath Temple on Sunday. The event marked the beginning of Rath Yatra preparations.
This tradition took place today evening on the occasion of holy Sri Panchami. A 12-foot Dhaura wood was worshipped.
The ‘Ratha Katha Anukula’ ritual involved the ceremonial worship of Dhaura Katha for the three chariots of the Holy Trinity. The ritual signifies the beginning of traditional chariot construction for the upcoming Rath Yatra.
Three trucks recently transported as many as 101 pieces of timber, including Ashan and Dhaura wood, to Puri from the forests of Nayagarh and Dasapalla. At the same time, the sacred rituals for Ghosa Jatra commenced in Puri. The construction of the chariots will begin on the occasion of next Akshaya Triitiya.
