Bhubaneswar: Two unidentified miscreants made off with jewellery and cash worth lakhs from a banquet hall located in the Maitri Vihar police station area of the capital city on Sunday evening.
According to reports, a wedding ceremony took place at a banquet hall in the city, hosted by a doctor couple. As the marriage procession arrived, the two miscreants, posing as guests from the groom’s side, entered the venue after parking their vehicle outside. Amid the large gathering, one of the accused joined the bride for a photoshoot while the other remained under the dais, keeping a watch.
When the crowd grew larger, the accused who was with the bride discreetly stole a gift bag containing cash and valuables that had been placed there by the bride’s mother. The two then fled the scene.
The theft was discovered when the bride’s family realized the bag was missing. They immediately contacted the police, claiming that cash worth over Rs 2.5 lakh and jewellery, including gold and diamonds, valued at over Rs 10 lakh had been stolen.
The police arrived at the venue, reviewed the CCTV footage and have launched an investigation to track down the culprits.
