Bhubaneswar: The eighth session of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s grievance hearing program was held today, showcasing the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of the common people.
Since assuming office, Chief Minister Majhi has revitalized the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell, emphasizing prompt resolution of public grievances and ensuring justice for all.
One of the heartwarming stories from today’s session was that of Heramba Giri from Boudh district, who arrived with his 7-year-old daughter, Pratyusha Giri, suffering from xeroderma, a rare and costly-to-treat disease.
On December 30, Heramba had approached the Chief Minister for help. Moved by the child’s condition, CM Majhi immediately arranged for her treatment at Capital Hospital and later at SCB Medical College & Hospital in Cuttack.
After a month of treatment, Heramba returned to seek further assistance. Recognizing the family’s plight, the Chief Minister approved an urgent aid of Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund through the Single Window System. Additionally, he promised the family a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, Heramba expressed his heartfelt thanks, stating, “The hope with which I came has been fulfilled. I can never repay the debt I owe to the Chief Minister.”
Another touching case was that of Ratan Kalshe from Balangir, who brought his 16-year-old differently-abled son, Alok Kalshe. The boy, unable to walk or sit, was immediately sent to the hospital in an ambulance for treatment. The Chief Minister also directed officials to provide financial assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF), showcasing his empathy and swift action.
The eighth session of the grievance hearing saw the Chief Minister personally interacting with around 30 differently-abled individuals, listening to their concerns, and instructing senior officials to address their issues promptly.
A total of 1,000 people had registered for the hearing today. CM Majhi, along with his Cabinet colleagues, meticulously listened to each grievance and directed officials to take necessary actions for resolution.
Addressing the media, Chief Minister Majhi highlighted the success of the grievance hearing program, noting that 81% of cases have been resolved since its inception on July 1 last year.
Out of 8,031 petitions received over seven rounds, 6,545 complaints have been resolved. The resolution rates have been consistently high, with 90% in the first round, 88% in the second, 86% in the third, 84% in the fourth, 83% in the fifth, 54% in the sixth, and 47% in the seventh round. The remaining cases are under process. “We will never disappoint the people who come to the government with hope. We are committed to addressing all grievances and ensuring justice,” the Chief Minister affirmed.
To streamline the process, CM Majhi urged citizens to first report their grievances at the Collector’s Grievance Cell, which is equipped to resolve most issues. Only in cases of serious problems should individuals approach the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell, with prior approval from the District Collector.
The session was attended by Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain, Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department Satyabrat Sahu, Additional Chief Secretary of General Administration & Public Grievance Department Surendra Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of Revenue and Disaster Management Department Deo Ranjan Kumar Singh, and other senior officials.
Through his compassionate leadership and proactive measures, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has transformed the grievance cell into a symbol of hope and relief for the people of Odisha.
