Bolangir: Six Odia families who had migrated to Telangana for work have been allegedly held hostage by their employer and subjected to physical torture. Relatives of these families have written to the Bolangir district Collector to rescue these hapless workers and bring them back to their village.
According to reports, a labour contractor from Kantabanji sent 22 women and men along with 6 children from six families of Turekela village in Bolangir to work in a brick kiln belonging to one Enket Rao in Kishtapali village under Bollaram police limits of Sangareddy district of Telangana in November 2024. A few days after these men and women reached their work place, the owner of the brick kiln allegedly forced them to work day and night without proper food, shelter or remuneration. When they protested, the goons of the employer allegedly abused and beat them up. They were also tortured for demanding food and remuneration, reports alleged.
On learning about the plight of the migrant labourers, one Bhisham Parbhu of Turekela village has written to the Bolangir district Collector urging the latter to intervene into the matter and rescue the workers.
