Malkangiri: Kalimela police recovered the hanging body of a Class-IX student from a Mahua tree near the hostel of a government-run SC/ST High School at Gampakonda in Malkangiri district, on Tuesday.
According to reports, the deceased student, Rigan Madakami, celebrated Saraswati puja. After the immersion ceremony, Rigan had told his friends that he would return to have dinner but didn’t show up.
Later, some students who went to the toilet found Rigan hanging from the tree and informed the school authorities.
On a tip-off from school authorities, police reached the spot and seized the body. The police have started an investigation and sent the body for post-mortem.
It is learnt from sources that a scientific team from Koraput is expected to arrive today to assist police in the investigation.
The deceased student’s family members who reside at Kambeda village under Korukonda block in Malkangiri district are yet to come to terms with the incident, hinting that the death might not be a case of suicide.
